Typical Workshop Format
Potential clients frequently ask, "How do you conduct your training?". This page shows how we prepare and conduct training at the Peregrine Leadership Institute.
Prior to conducting any training session or workshop, we meet with the client to determine the specific goals and objectives for the program. The goals and objectives translate into the Purpose and Endstate for the program which the participants see upfront at the beginning of each training session and are used to guide the instruction.
We then build the program’s agenda for the workshop. The agenda frequently includes both historical and contemporary examples that are used to establish a clear and compelling frame of reference for the program. We then show examples, use short case studies, employ written exercises, and facilitate focused discussions regarding the material. We only use roll-playing exercises for very specific training sessions where roll-playing would be the most effective method for adult learning information.
We use a facilitated instructional style to involve the workshop participants throughout the training session. Participants who are engaged in the training will be more likely to retain and apply the knowledge gained to their current work environment. We focus on the direct application of the material rather than just the theory or concepts.
At the Peregrine Leadership Institute, we believe that unless you can readily apply the information for your work, then the information presented does not have the needed value. We constantly stress the application of the material for every workshop participant.
At the end of each training day, we conduct an After Action Review (AAR) of the day with the participants. The AAR is conducted for two reasons. First, we use the AAR to improve our own instructional materials and presentations. Second, and more importantly, we use the AAR to demonstrate a proven method for continuous improvement. The AAR is a post-project assessment tool that is highly recommended by the Harvard Business School for continuous improvement. We show participants who simple and easy it is to use the AAR for their own workplace.
All workshop participants will receive copies of the slides, handouts, and any other course materials. This enables the participants to have ready references from the workshop later on when they return to their duties.
Following the training sessions and workshops, we provide the client with any notes generated during the workshop, usually within 48 hours. We believe that you can readily take the results of the training session and apply key concepts to improve your organization.
Our Course Catalog with descriptions for over 40 workshops, training sessions, and consulting solutions are available under Program Descriptions.
